Goldeyes pick up Canizares from Mexican league

The Winnipeg Goldeyes have added what they hope is a big bat in veteran infielder Barbaro Canizares.

The 32-year-old Canizares is fresh off the completion of his second season with the Oaxaca Guerreros of the Mexican league.

In 107 games with the club, Canizares batted .348, slugged 28 homers and racked in 103 RBIs.

In order to make room for Canizares, the Fish placed veteran Jon Weber on waivers.

With 14 games left in the regular season, the Goldeyes are 9.5 games back of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks for tops in the North Division and are only two games up on St. Paul for the American Association's wild-card playoff berth.
