Jabari Henry clubbed a two-run homer and Andrew Ely went 3-for-4 with with a double and an RBI to power the Sioux Falls Canaries to an 8-6 triumph over the Winnipeg Goldeyes in American Association baseball action before 1,205 fans at Sioux Falls Stadium Friday night.
Winnipeg, losers of two straight, dropped to 4-3 on the season while Sioux Falls improved to 5-2 overall.
Darnell Sweeney had a big night at the plate for the Fish, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs.
Grady Wood (1-1) earned the victory with the start, going 5 2/3 innings while giving up five hits and threee earned runs, three walks and striking out seven.
Ryan Fritze got the save with two innings of two-hit, one-run relief.
Winnipeg starter Kevin McGovern (0-1) was tagged with the loss, giving up six hits, six runs and one walk while striking out one in a two-inning stint.
The Goldeyes and Canaries will meet again today and Sunday to complete the series before the St. Paul’s Saints arrive in Sioux Falls Monday to begin a three-game set with the Goldeyes.
