Yellowhead Chiefs rookie Taylor Sanheim, Southwest Cougars assistant captain Jordan Greig and Brandon Wheat Kings goaltender Justin Holder have been named the players of the month by the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League.
Sanheim, a native of Elkhorn, has been named the WHL offensive player of the month after the 15-year-old led the Chiefs in scoring during November with 15 points (10 goals and five assists) and had a plus-4 rating.
During the month, he factored into half of his team’s goals. So far this season, he has been in on almost 42 per cent of his team’s goals. The honourable mentions went to Lucas Oliver of the Southwest Cougars; Eddie Bayer of the Norman Northstars and Tyler Coulter of the Brandon Wheat Kings.
Greig, a native of Souris, was selected as the Meyers Norris Penny defensive player of the month after the scored 12 points (two goals and 10 assists) in the eight games. The 17-year-old is fourth in league scoring among defencemen with seven goals and 14 assists. Honourable mentions went to Travis Sanheim of the Yellowhead Chiefs, Clayton Heinrichs of the Brandon Wheat Kings and Bruce Highway of the Norman Northstars.
Holder, 16, was named the Century 21 goaltender of the month after he recorded victories in five of the six games he played in November. During the month, he posted a 2.83 goals-against-average and a save percentage of .920. His only loss was to Winnipeg Thrashers, his first in his last 10 games. The honourable mentions were Justin Paulic, of the Norman Northstars, Gage Murray of the Southwest Cougars and Zac Robidoux of the Pembina Valley Hawks.
