Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 27/4/2015 (1272 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.

The PGA Tour Canada’s Players Cup will move inside the Perimeter Highway next year for the first time in 26 years.

Niakwa Country Club will join a rotation with Pine Ridge Golf Club starting in 2016, the Players Cup announced this morning.

Winnipeg’s stop on the former Canadian Tour was last played in the city proper in 1990 when it was held for a final time at the old Southwood Golf and Country Club.

Since then, it has been played at Breezy Bend, Pine Ridge, Elmhurst and Pine Ridge, all clubs just outside the Perimeter.

The Players Cup (and its former iterations the Manitoba Open, MTS Classic and Free Press Manitoba Classic) has been held at Pine Ridge since 2000 and will be there again this summer, July 6 to 12 for an increased purse of $175,000.

Niakwa will be the host course for the event in 2016 and 2018, with the event staged at Pine Ridge in 2017 and 2019.

"We’re excited to see the tournament expanding within the community here in Manitoba," said Jeff Monday, PGA TOUR Canada president. "After visiting both facilities, we’re confident they will both provide an outstanding test of golf as host venues for The Players Cup moving forward."

In conjunction with the rota announcement, the PGA Tour has extended its contract with The Players Cup to 2019.

The Players Cup executive director Ryan Hart also announced today the creation of the tournament’s new charitable foundation, The Play Through Foundation.

It will give 100 per cent of tournament proceeds back to children’s initiatives in Winnipeg’s inner city.

To date, The Players Cup has donated more than $350,000 to various charitable endeavours since 2010.

This foundation has identified the SSCY Centre (Specialized Services for Children and Youth) and The Boys and Girls Club of Winnipeg as 2015 recipients.
