AT THE MTS CENTRE

The big picture

The Jets remain very much a work in progress and it's a fascinating study to see the colours being thrown on the canvas. There are still a dozen or so too many bodies in camp, the lines and defensive pairings don't appear to be set and there's just one preseason game left to find some answers. But there is something here. It's a young squad with some talent seemingly on the cusp. When it's clicking like Wednesday's win over the Hurricanes it can be fun to watch. When it's not, it's can look a lot like Sunday's 4-zip loss to the 'Canes in Charlotte. And that ain't pretty.

The little picture

Claude Noel & Co. have a lot of questions to answer in a short period of time. Not only that, but after Friday's pre-season finale the Jets' coaching staff must find a way to team build this outfit -- and keep them entertained -- during the long break before their regular-season debut.

Game-breaker

The Jets are killing a penalty when Canes defenceman gets his stick in the mug of Jets' captain Andrew Ladd, drawing a four-minute high-sticking penalty. Evander Kane tips home a perfect pass from Patrice Cormier to tie it and shift the momentum dramatically. And here's the proof: 64 seconds later Blake Wheeler scored the winner on a top-shelf wrister over Brian Boucher's glove.
