JUST for the record, the collection of prospects the Edmonton Oilers are icing at this weekend's Young Stars Classic in Penticton, B.C., has not been renamed the Edmonton McDavids...
But it might seem that way by the time the Jets young guns meet No. 1 draft pick Connor McDavid and the Oilers Monday afternoon.
Some of the Jets, such as Josh Morrissey and Nic Petan, have played with the much-hyped star during their days wearing Team Canada's colours. And while they had their own goals and worries on the eve of the event, facing the game's next big star is also going to be, well, different.
Petan: "It'll be a lot fun. Obviously he's got a lot of hype and that's not new to anybody. I'm looking forward to it and I'll try my best to slow him down.
"He definitely is (worth the hype). He's a great player and an even greater guy. It should be fun to play against him."
Morrissey: "I know Connor pretty well. We played together at two world juniors and on under-18, back when he was 15. He's an amazing player. I got the chance to reap the rewards of playing with him on some power plays at world juniors. But I've never actually played against him at any game, so it's going to be a lot of fun. Obviously, there's a lot of hype about him and that only makes the tournament better. It brings out more people and any time you get a chance to watch a player like that play, for fans, it's exciting.
"I'm looking forward to playing against him. He's a friend of mine and I'll see if I can stop him one-on-one."
