Legendary Jets hockey star Teemu Selanne will be presented with the Key to the City today at the MTS Centre.

Mayor Brian Bowman will make the presentation recognizing Selanne's achievements both on and off the ice in Winnipeg.

Selanne broke into the NHL with the Jets in 1992-93, scoring 76 goals and setting a record for most goals by a rookie.

After almost four years with the Jets, Selanne was traded by then-general manager John Paddock to the Anaheim Ducks on Feb. 6, 1996.

It is regarded as one of the worst trades of all time. The Ducks sent first-round draft picks Chad Kilger and Oleg Tverdovsky, along with a third-round selection at the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, in exchange for Selänne, Marc Chouinard and a fourth-round draft pick.

A Wikipedia entry says the amiable Selanne was so upset by the trade he left Winnipeg Arena without speaking to anyone.

Today's presentation, open to media only, is at 1 p.m. at MTS Centre.
