Bogosian spared further

Zach Bogosian: no suspension

THE NHL decided Monday that there was no reason to discipline Winnipeg Jets defenceman Zach Bogosian beyond his game misconduct on Sunday night.

The league monitors all games but decided against a formal review or hearing regarding the incident that saw Bogosian travel a distance and make a heavy check on Andreas Nodl of the Carolina Hurricanes during Sunday's second period at the MTS Centre.

Bogosian was given a major for charging and a game misconduct. He played only 11:07 in his first game after returning from a five-game absence due to a lower-body injury.

Sunday's video replays show that Bogosian did not use his elbows nor did he target Nodl's head.

The matter of whether Bogosian left his feet -- which is illegal -- to deliver the check is open for debate. Often, and it may be in this case, the contact causes a skater's feet to come off the ice after the contact. Nodl did not return to the game.

Bogosian received a warning for a high hit earlier this season but the NHL determined the actions of the player he was hitting, Cody Eakin of Washington, was partly responsible for the high contact.

Fehr in fold, Antropov out

THE Jets travelled to Pittsburgh Monday and play the Penguins tonight (6 p.m. CT, TSN Jets, TSN 1290).

They did so with injured right-winger Eric Fehr in the fold, though there was no word from the team Monday whether he'll be available for any of the three road games this week.

Spencer Machacek was recalled Sunday to take his place and played with centre Jim Slater and winger Antti Miettinen.

Nik Antropov, who scored in three straight games and then left Sunday's contest with a lower-body injury, did not make the trip with the team.

Antropov played just 6:17 in the game before being injured.

The team had no update on his condition Monday but given that he didn't travel, the chances are strong he will not be available for any games this week.
