Pain was too much for Spezza:

OTTAWA -- Although it may have cost him the season, Jason Spezza says it was the only option. The Ottawa Senators' 29-year-old centre admitted Friday he had no other choice. "It was really bad," he says of his pain after surgery for a herniated disc.
