Three men have been arrested as a result of an investigation into an assault in the RM of Ste Anne.

RCMP were initially looking for two men after they received a report of an assault that had occurred on Sunday morning.

Steinbach RCMP said two males had arrived at the address to speak with one of the residents when they were approached by the 69-year-old male property owner. A fight then ensued where the 69-year-old suffered serious injuries.

“Officers were advised that the 69-year-old had been taken to hospital and later transferred to Winnipeg where he was reported to be in critical condition,” police said in a Tuesday press release. “His condition has since been upgraded to stable.”

The investigation led officers to a residence on Provincial Road 210 in the RM of Ste Anne where both suspects were found.

The 28-year-old male from Steinbach was arrested without incident.

The second suspect, a 27-year-old male from the RM of Ste Anne, was placed under arrest but police say he resisted being taken into custody. He was eventually restrained and placed into the police vehicle.

While that was happening the 50-year-old male property owner became belligerent to one of the officers and police say he attempted to intervene with the arrest.

“This suspect uttered threats to harm one of the officers and became combative,” they said. “The officers on scene had to physically take control of the suspect in order to place him into the police vehicle.”

Darcy Funk, 28, has been charged with aggravated assault and mischief.

Dallas Funk, 27, has been charged with aggravated assault, mischief and uttering threats.

Gerald Funk, 50, has been charged with uttering threats and resisting arrest.

The three were remanded into custody for a court appearance that was scheduled for Tuesday in Winnipeg.

Steinbach RCMP say the investigation continues.
