Steinbach RCMP are reminding the public of the importance of activating crosswalk signals, after the driver of a motorized scooter was struck by a car last Thursday.
Police came across the accident shortly before 11 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Kroeker Avenue in Steinbach.
A 94-year-old Steinbach woman had been crossing Main Street using the crosswalk when she was struck by a westbound Ford Focus driven by a 54-year-old woman.
The impact tipped over the scooter, causing what RCMP described Monday in a release as minor injuries to the woman’s head and arm. She was transported to hospital for medical care.
RCMP found the crosswalk lights were not activated, while the driver of the car had her view of the road obstructed by another vehicle. She applied the brakes but could not avoid the collision, RCMP said.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
Police thanked those who offered assistance at the scene and remind the public to activate crosswalk lights before venturing across the street.
