COVID-19 has claimed the life of a 19th Steinbach resident and infiltrated another local retirement home.
A woman in her 80s from Southern Health linked to the outbreak at Bridgepark Manor assisted living facility was one of 10 deaths announced Saturday by Manitoba public health officials.
An outbreak was also declared at Fernwood Place in Steinbach.
Farther west, Eastview Place in Altona and Tabor Home in Morden also declared outbreaks.
The number of active cases in Steinbach fell to 348 from 355. Hanover’s active case count rose to 150 from 148.
Ste Anne/La Broquerie has 93 active cases, up from 84 yesterday.
Tache has 40 active cases, Springfield 44, Niverville/Ritchot 43, St Pierre/De Salaberry 30, Red River South 8, Rural East 24, and Whiteshell seven.
A total of 387 new cases of the virus were identified in Manitoba Saturday, 94 of which were in Southern Health. The provincial test positivity rate nudged upward to 13.8 percent.
Manitoba has 8,012 active cases of the virus, with 276 people in hospital and 45 in intensive care.
To date, 217 Manitobans have died from COVID-19.
The chief provincial public health officer urges Manitobans to only leave their homes for essential purposes and only socialize with those inside their household.
