A former reeve of the RM of Piney is being remembered this week for the many ways he expressed his dedication to the municipality.
Duane Boutang died Tuesday at the age of 69.
The Vassar resident served as head of council from 2010 to 2014.
Earl Sawka of Woodridge worked with Boutang on council and said he will dearly miss his colleague.
"Duane was very intelligent, witty, hardworking, dedicated, and never backed down from any challenge," Sawka said.
"He was always more than willing to carry the load."
Sawka recalled Boutang was instrumental in getting a fire hall built in Woodridge.
"As reeve he worked diligently for the benefit of the municipality. He was a great asset."
Boutang enjoyed golfing and hunting, Sawka said, and poured many volunteers hours into the South East Sno-Riders, where he served as secretary.
In a Facebook post, the snowmobiling association said Boutang passed away while grooming trails with another operator.
