Steinbach RCMP are crediting their police dog, Gainer, with helping officers track down a man suspected of causing some mischief over the weekend at the municipal office in La Broquerie.
Officers responded Sunday around 8:20 p.m. to alarms sounding at the Simard Street office complex. They found a smashed window and footprints leading away from the building.
Cpl. Garfield Henderson, the detachment's police dog services handler, and Gainer were called in to assist with the investigation.
Gainer led officers to Des Pignons Street, roughly three blocks from the crime scene, where a 22-year-old La Broquerie man wearing a black ski mask was arrested.
The outsoles of the man's shoes matched footprints found at the crime scene, Steinbach RCMP said Tuesday in a release.
A charge of mischief is pending.
