Only seven minutes after receiving a call of a driver proceeding the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway, a second call came in reporting the collision that killed a 70-year-old Winnipeg man.
St. Pierre RCMP responded to the first call at 5:25 a.m. on Friday. While enroute they received the second call, discovering that the Winnipeg man struck an eastbound vehicle head on.
The 70-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene, and the 30-year-old male driver from La Broquerie was transported to hospital with what RCMP are calling "serious injuries".
Police closed the eastbound lanes for several hours.
RCMP say the investigation is ongoing.
