An Indigenous-led committee studying the feasibility of searching a Winnipeg-area landfill for the remains of two women has sent a formal request for funding to the federal government.

The committee, which expects a swift decision on its funding plan, is exploring the likelihood of finding the remains of Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran, who police believe were slain by an alleged serial killer last year, at Prairie Green Landfill.

The site’s owner stopped dumping waste in June in a section marked as an area of interest by city police, the committee said today.
