Police chase suspect on foot, seize drugs and nearly $5,000 in cash

The Winnipeg Police Service arrested a suspect following a brief chase through the snow on foot near the Harry Lazarenko (Redwood) Bridge on Sunday night.
At approximately 12:27 a.m. Sunday, a North District Community Support unit located a wanted man driving an SUV in the 100 block of Alfred Avenue. The police tried to stop the car by pulling up in front of him. However, the suspect drove towards the police officers in an attempt to get away but missed. He then collided with a nearby tree and fled on foot.
After a brief chase on foot and a struggle with a police officer, the suspect was arrested and taken into custody. Police also seized approximately 2 ounces of methamphetamine (estimated street value of $1,200) and $4,590 in cash. An air pistol was also found nearby.
A 35-year-old man has been charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, resisting a peace officer, possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking, five counts of failing to comply with condition of release order.
