The death of a man whose body was found on the outskirts of Brandon four months ago is now being investigated as a homicide.

Blue Hills RCMP were called to the RM of Cornwallis, on the edge of Brandon, in early October, where they found what appeared to be human remains, RCMP said.

Over the past four months, in consultation with a Brandon University forensic anthropologist and the provincial medical examiner’s office, investigators have sought to identify the man and his cause of death.

They have now confirmed the victim was James Vernon Giesbrecht, 37 of Brandon, who was reported missing to Brandon police on Dec. 12.

Police believe a number of people saw and interacted with Giesbrecht in late September and early October, and wish to speak with them. A tip line has been set up at 1-431-489-8110.
