A Wolseley entrepreneur who’s slowly made her name lathering up A-list celebrities is set to open her first storefront this weekend.
On Sat., Oct. 6, Louise Vargas will open the doors to SoGa Soap & CupFakery at 755 Corydon Ave. at 11 a.m.
“I’m pretty nervous about it right now,” Vargas laughed in an interview, noting the frenzy of shopping and set up work still left to do.
Vargas launched her specialty soaps and body bath line from her Chestnut Street home in August 2011, quickly gaining regular clients as far away as Nova Scotia and the United States.
Her products have been featured in the Oscars gift lounge, the MTV movie awards and Earth Day activities, landing in the hands of stars such as Tom Hanks, Ellen DeGeneres and Orlando Bloom.
Vargas taught herself how to make soap in 1998 after looking for alternatives to help her dry skin. The soaps are vegan and made with all natural products like agave nectar, clay and shay butter.
“It’s as fresh as it can be,” she said.
Vargas, a surgical neuromonitoring technologist at the Health Sciences Centre, said her husband Luis will help run the shop.
“He’s been very supportive,” she said.
As part of the grand opening, each visitor will receive a free gift bag featuring a signature CupFake truffle and items from other local artisans and vendors, Vargas said.
Half of the store will be shared with Thrive Nutrition, Vargas said, noting there will still be room for her to hold soap making demonstrations.
