Infrastructure programs sees multimillion-dollar commitment

The Winnipeg Community Infrastructure Program has had $7.5 million committed to it over the next three years by the 2013 provincial budget and the Manitoba Building and Renewal Plan.
The infrastructure program will be accepting proposals for projects that provide long-term recreational and wellness benefits to communities.
“We know at the heart of every neighbourhood, families congregate at community centres, playgrounds and cultural centres.  These venues are important to the fabric of the community, as they bring local families together to laugh, share, socialize and take part in physical activity,” said Premier Greg Selinger in a release.  “This is why our government is investing in these important projects because they matter to Winnipeg families and all Manitobans.”
The program is designed to improve or expand existing infrastructure in Winnipeg communities.
“Renewing, upgrading and improving our community infrastructure helps create jobs and grows our economy,” said Local Government Minister Ron Lemieux.  “It is a win-win for families and our province.”
