Forest-themed jewelry felt natural

Assiniboine Forest served as great inspiration for a Charleswood woman’s jewelry line.

Lindsey Childs, 26, channelled her love of trees into Forest Allure Designs, a wire craft jewelry line which she created.

Living in Charleswood, next to the Assiniboine Forest, sparked her love for trees. Childs said she appreciates the fact that trees provide air, shade, and food.

“They’re so gorgeous and green,” Childs said. “Trees have always been a calming factor (for me).”

Thus, the birth of Forest Allure Designs. The jewelry line has a forest theme, so in addition to trees, Childs also makes jewelry resembling flowers, birds’ nests, and raindrops. She also uses natural materials, like stone and wood, so as to stay consistent with her theme.

Childs buys her supplies from a plethora of sources, ranging from craft stores to online suppliers.

Childs originally created the company as something to do while she was unemployed three years ago. Christmas was coming up, and instead of spending money, she wanted to make wire bookmarks for her friends and family as gifts.

“I just absolutely tanked it. I could not make a bookmark for the life of me,” Childs said.

Afterwards, Childs found a tutorial on how to make a ‘Tree of Life’ design using wire, so she tried it out and was successful. Her mother took some of the pieces to work, and her co-workers loved them.

“I started making them as Christmas gifts and to make money while I looked for a new job,” Childs said.

Now, Childs is an office manager for the Arts and Cultural Industries Association of Manitoba, but is still making jewelry in her free time.

“It’s something I do on evenings and weekends. I just put in what I can,” Childs said.
