There was a different voice emanating from the United Church in Meadowood recently.

Former southeast Winnipegger and Glenlawn Collegiate alumnus Jessica Strong performed a fundraising concert at the church (1111 Dakota St.) on March 20 with the UCiM Choir. Strong’s accompanist for the event was Madeline Hildebrand, who recently performed with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

Strong, who grew up in St. Vital, is a renowned soprano who currently sings in Germany with the Frankfurt Opera in its Opera Studio.

According to a news release, Strong was in Winnipeg on a whirlwind trip and had the chance to “renew ties with her church family and friends.”

After the concert, Strong headed to Calgary to perform the lead soprano role of Micaela in Calgary Opera’s production of Carmen at the end of April.
