• École Riverview School Parent Advisory Council received a $10,000 community incentive grant (CIG) from the Fort Rouge-East Fort Garry ward allowance for a new outdoor learning space on school grounds.
The grant is in addition to a $15,000 CIG awarded last September. The $118,000 project also received $85,000 in funding from the provincial government through the Community Infrastructure Program.
A sod turning event is planned for June 30 at École Riverview School at 9 a.m.
• Plans for an apartment condominium at the corner of Hugo Street and Morley Avenue in Lord Roberts were unanimously approved by Couns. Jenny Gerbasi (Fort Rouge-East Fort Garry), John Orlikow (River Heights-Fort Garry) and Cindy Gilroy (Daniel McIntyre) at City Centre Community Committee. The new residential development by StreetSide Developments is adjacent to the Southwest Rapid Transitway and the Parkline Townhomes, built by the same developer.
• Orlikow put forward a motion that the City of Winnipeg continue to install barricades at access points to the Sunday/holiday bicycle routes to stop vehicle traffic from travelling on the streets during restricted times.
Previously the city would construct barricades to alert drivers to the closed routes. Those barricades were replaced with permanent signs informing drivers they can travel just one block during Sundays and holidays.
“I think it’s quite clear that the process presently without the barricades isn’t working,” Orlikow said.
The resolution will go forward to the standing policy committee on public works.
The city’s Sunday/holiday bike routes are as follows:
• Lyndale Drive — Cromwell Street to Gauvin Street;
• Scotia Street — Anderson Avenue (at St. Cross Street) to Armstrong Avenue;
• Wellington Crescent — Academy Road (at Wellington Crescent) to Guelph Street; and
• Wolseley Avenue — Raglan Road to Maryland Street.
