Students at St. Maurice School in Fort Garry laced up their walking shoes to support one of their teachers living with multiple sclerosis.

Grade 4 teacher Barb Van Walleghem was diagnosed with MS about five years ago and has since been appointed as the MS Society Ambassador for Manitoba.

After taking in a presentation about the disease, students took to the streets for a walk around Crescent Drive Park. Nearly 400 students and staff participated in the mini-walk on April 25.

Students hoped to raise awareness, funds and attention for the MS walk that happened on May 1 at The Forks. Students also collected money to be donated to the MS Society of Canada. The event raised $871.50 for the MS Society of Canada – Manitoba Division. Go to http://mssoc.convio.net to help support.
