On June 21 the University of Winnipeg (U of W) announced the grand opening of its newest campus building and facility, Leatherdale Hall.
The project was made possible through a donation of $2.5 million by Louise and the late Dr. Douglas Leatherdale. The new building is located behind the U of W Collegiate as part of the campus at Portage Avenue, and features meeting spaces for student and faculty, as well the reinstated Tony’s Canteen.
The new space can seat 150 people and be converted to a lecture hall, reception area and break-out room for conferences. The late Dr. Leatherdale attended the U of W after moving to the city from Morden and donated a total of $6.5 million to the school.
“Doug credited this institution with changing his life,” said Leatherdale’s wife, Louise. “This campus has always held a special place in our hearts, so to have the opportunity to give back and be a part of this community for so many years is truly an honour.”
