Close to 500 people took part in the recent Portage Pride Week festivities including a march on May 11 along the rainbow mural painted on the Crescent Lake promenade.

Pride Portage la Prairie co-founder Josh Wright said this year’s celebrations were expanded from a day to a week. “The community was very involved with Pride this year, with the local high school’s queer-straight alliance planning activities of their own for students to take part in. We had a flag raising at City Hall, and the Portage la Prairie Community Renewal Corp. and City partnered to paint a rainbow mural on the Crescent Lake promenade.” Trinity United Church also held a special service on May 12 to recognize Pride Week.
