Three cheers for Manitoba’s newest cheerleading program!

Vision Cheer Company celebrated the grand opening of its brand new facility in Headingley last week. Weds., July 15 marked the launch of Manitoba’s newest cheer gym and program at 184 Caron Rd.

“Vision Cheer Company is a not-for-profit cheerleading program designed to truly support the growth of the community. The team is made up of the best in our province and the top talent for coaching, which includes Team Canada athletes,” said board member Jennifer Mathieson.

“This advantage provides young athletes with one-of-a-kind training, and the not-for-profit status ensures affordable opportunities and complete transparency.”

The COVID-19 pandemic added some extra challenges to opening the new venue, especially with the uncertainty about whether it would even be possible to return to sport.

“The idea that we were opening a brand new facility and investing money with no real indication we would be able to run program was the biggest challenge,” Mathieson said.

“Next to that, we rely on demos to showcase what cheer is all about to new potential athletes.

Without being able to even practise together, it was a challenge to get the word out.”

Now that it’s open for business, Vision Cheer Company is offering programs at all levels for participants aged three years old and up — with no upper age limit.

“Our competitive programs have a range of levels for all abilities, while our rec programs offer a shorter, more affordable option with lots of flexibility and some great Masters options for older generations,” Mathieson said.

“We stand out because our team stands out. We represent the top of sport here in Manitoba and we’re continually invested in the next generation.”

The convenient location in Headingley makes the venue easy to access for participants from near and far.

“It’s in close proximity to not just the greater area of Winnipeg with the connection of the Perimeter but it’s also easily accessible to a number of surrounding communities without this type of sport accessible,” Mathieson said.

“Additionally, Headingley is welcoming and growing, and we want to grow with it. Everyone is welcome at anytime to come check us out.”

Adding to the excitement, Vision Cheer Company will also be the official home of the Blue Bomber Cheer Team.

“It really is an amazing sport that combines stunt, gymnastics, dance, teamwork and builds strong relationships that last a lifetime,” Mathieson said.

“The sport of cheer is growing worldwide and provides a spot for everyone.
