The Winnipeg Police Service has announced its school safety patrol award recipients for the 2020-21 school year, and there are several recipients with southeast Winnipeg connections.
In the divisional award category, three schools in Louis Riel School Division were recognized for their school safety programs. École Henri-Bergeron finished in first place, Highbury School came in second, and Victor H. L. Wyatt School registered third.
In Division scolaire franco-manitobaine, École Lacerte finished in first place, and École Taché came in second. There was no third place in this category this year.
Officials say there were around 6,000 school patrols in Winnipeg in 2021, which help ensure children across the city arrive safely at their schools.
WPS has been involved with the school safety patrol program since 1936.
