Reduce. Reuse. Recreate. Rebuild.
Such is the case at Reclothify, a newly opened ‘premium thrift’ store located at 150 Goulet St.
COO Alisha Murray wants the public to gain a healthy perspective on second-hand clothing. Here you’ll discover how to be a part of the solution when it comes to recycling clothing.
Globally, only 20 per cent of discarded textiles are recycled, meaning 80 per cent head to landfills. In 2020, these stats influenced Murray to start a company called Winnipeg Textile Recycling. Its warehouse, with the assistance of a third party, sorts through pounds of clothing, saving the best of the best, which end up on the racks at Reclothify. It’s a win-win scenario, while diverting waste from landfills.
What’s most eye-catching is the weight scale at the back of the store.
One pound of anything you purchase costs just $10. For example, if three shirts weigh a pound, you pay just $10.
Men’s, women’s and children’s clothing in sizes from extra-small to 6XL fill the store walls, with daily pieces added and another 100 pounds of goods arriving at the end of the month.
Reclothify does not accept donations, and supports Northern Manitoba communities, having sent between 200-500 pounds of clothing north, including warm coats.
Future plans include a pop-up area for local designers but for now the mood Murray is focusing on is capturing the culture.
If you want to gain some good weight, shop Monday to Sunday, or visit the website at www.reclothify.com. Reclothify will also be at the Winakwa Community Centre’s Christmas shopping event on Sat., Dec. 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 980 Winakwa Rd.
Just across the street at 131 Goulet St., you’ll also discover Signatures by Ellen, a consignment store with a history dressing women in some of the best designer wear in the city. It’s truly first class, second hand.
Owner Ellen Lemke offers consignors (upon appointment) great value and also provides a personal shopping experience for customers.
Signatures by Ellen features sizes small to 4X. On the racks you will recognize labels such as Reitmans, Lululemon, Prada, Armani and more.
There is an assortment of outerwear including Columbia sport coats and shearlings, winter boots and an array of accessories.
Consignment stores often receive close-out items. That means new items at discounts of up to 70 per cent off the original price.
Save time by shopping a mixed bag of labels all under one roof. Supplement your wardrobe with a few pieces while you consign some of your own.
Store hours are Mon. to Sat, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
