Erb to continue as reeve for the RM of Macdonald

Brad Erb will continue to serve as reeve of the R.M. of Macdonald after the Oct. 26 civic election.

Erb, a full-time farmer who has lived in Macdonald his entire life, has been reeve for three terms and an elected official for six. Erb said he developed an interest in municipal politics and governance because he always wanted to help better his community.

“I’m very community-oriented,” Erb added. “Beyond just politics, I’ve been a volunteer for a number of years, so I have a genuine interest and wanted to serve.”

Erb was a board member and president of the local credit union for several years prior to being elected to council. He has also been involved with the Oak Bluff Recreation Club since he was a kid, and is now heavily involved with the local activities of his own children.

In his past three terms as reeve, Erb has helped with commercial, industrial and residential growth within the R.M. of Macdonald, particularly in the towns of Oak Bluff and La Salle. There’s also been significant infrastructure upgrades to water treatment plants, and he’s assisted with Plan 20-50, a draft 30-year regional plan focusing on land use that represents Winnipeg and the surrounding 18 municipalities.

“It’s been a humbling experience and I’m proud of the fact people trust me in this role,” Erb said.

Now that he’s been acclaimed, Erb said he plans to continue focusing on these projects. There will also be improvements made to the municipality’s emergency services programming and there’s been discussion about a new administrative office.

“We also want to never lose sight of the fact that rural infrastructure is important to us, including drainage and roads,” Erb said. “Roads in particular are important and have been a challenge the last number of years.”
