With the new year almost upon us, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you, your family, and your loved ones all the best that 2023 can provide. Together as a community, let’s make 2023 a memorable year for all of us.
As the MLA for Transcona, I had the privilege this year of nominating ten individuals for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee medal. On Dec. 7, these 10 people were presented with the medal by Lt.-Gov. Anita Neville, with Premier Heather Stefanson and myself in attendance. Congratulations to Sherri Armour, Tessa Blaikie-Whitecloud, Leila Dance, Carol Fletcher-Cook, Kathleen Hunt, Kaydon Laurin, Daryl Reid, Colleen Tackaberry, Lawrence Toet and Hazel Van Damm. Your tireless dedication to the betterment of not only our constituency but also the Province of Manitoba is noted and appreciated.
The months of November and December saw the resumption of many in-person celebrations that had been postponed the last two years because of the pandemic. It was a privilege to be invited to a number of events to represent and speak on behalf of the constituents of Transcona. I would like to thank the Schroeder Foundation for an invitation to their evening of celebrating public education excellence at the Casino Event Centre.

Tessa Blaikie Whitecloud, CEO of Siloam Mission, was one of 10 Transcona citizens honoured with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee medal on Dec. 7.
Another thank-you to the Manitoba School Board Association for inviting me to bring greetings to their school trustee orientation sessions that took place in late November.
A big thank you also goes out to Park Manor Personal Care Home for the invitation to their Christmas party and long-service recognition event that took place in early December. At this celebration I had the honour to present a long-service recognition certificate to Jeannine Dare for her 50 years of service to the residents of Park Manor. Jeannine’s dedication and level of service is truly noteworthy and speaks to a commitment to community that is truly rare.
Finally, a thank-you to the Transcona Legion for hosting many events during the month of December. I was able to attend the champagne grunch just before Christmas and greatly appreciated the time catching up with those present.
The Transcona constituency office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week. You can call at 204-594-2025 or email nello.altomare@yourmanitoba.ca
