R.H.G. Bonnycastle School has won first place in the 2022 Manitoba Battery Blitz Contest for its achievement in collecting 1,285 kg of used batteries. The annual contest, put together by Call2Recycle Canada and Earth Rangers, has been going since 2015.
17 Manitoban schools participated in the contest last year, collecting over 2,550 kg of batteries overall.
The prize money, which was awarded to the top three schools — Bonnycastle, John de Graff School and Prairie Rose Elementary School respectively — is to go towards educational materials, experiences, and technology, according to a press release. Bonnycastle will be using the funds specifically for activity rooms for students with special needs.
