Making our children a priority

Over the past four years, I have been proud to represent the community of Burrows in the Manitoba legislature. Our Manitoba NDP team is focused on the issues that matter most to families in Burrows and making sure our community has the best health care, the best education, and the best job opportunities.
Unfortunately, seven years of cuts under premiers Brian Pallister and Heather Stefanson have made life harder for Manitobans. Instead of investing in everyday families, this Progressive Conservative government is out of touch. It has been sending cheques to out-of-province billionaires rather than using that money to hire more teachers for our kids’ classrooms.
With less than 100 days before Manitobans head to the polls this fall, our Manitoba NDP team has a plan to make life better for all Manitobans. Recently, NDP Leader Wab Kinew made two major campaign commitments that prioritize the future of our province by investing in our children.
We believe that no child should go to school hungry, but currently too many kids in our province are unable to get the nutrition they need to be successful. We know that when kids get a good breakfast, it improves their ability to learn. That’s why a Manitoba NDP government will implement a universal school nutrition program that is accessible to every child in Manitoba.
We also want kids to have the support they need to pursue a positive path in life. A Manitoba NDP government will create a comprehensive public safety strategy focused on preventing youth crime. We would bring together law enforcement, community foot patrols, educators, and families to work together to reduce crime and improve public safety. We have also committed to ending chronic homelessness within two terms of government, which will help improve the safety of our communities.
I want my kids, and all of our children, to be able to build a good life here in Manitoba. This means a strong education, a good job, a healthy lifestyle, and a safe community. Our Manitoba NDP team is committed to working for you and your family so that we can build a better future for our province together.
I hope you have a safe and enjoyable summer! Feel free to connect with my office by calling 204-415-7621, emailing diljeet.brar@yourmanitoba.ca, or visiting us at 3-350 Keewatin St.
