The Louis Riel School Division board of trustees gathered for its final meeting of the school year on June 20, and approved the multi-year strategic plan (MYSP) for 2023-27. This plan holds significant meaning, as it was crafted from reflecting on the past four years and incorporates invaluable feedback from the heart of our division – the students, staff, and families.
Looking back at the journey since we drafted LRSD’s very first MYSP in 2019, it’s evident that many transformations have occurred. However, it was clear through consultations that the strategic priorities of belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity continue to align with nurturing thriving learners and flourishing communities. With this in mind, each of the strategic priorities and related goals were updated, ensuring they reflect our vision for the future.
The belonging strategic priority is anchored in fostering inclusion and acceptance. As we navigate polarizing times, creating an environment where every individual feels valued is more important than ever. Schools need to be a safe space where learners can thrive and not be afraid to be their true selves. This not only extends to our students but also to our dedicated staff and the parents and guardians who form an integral part of our educational community.

Louis Riel School Division’s strategic priorities of belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity continue to align with nurturing thriving learners and flourishing communities.
The mastery strategic priority is dedicated to promoting equity to support learning. The pandemic has presented its share of difficulties, and mastery strives to address the diverse needs of our students. By taking a learner-centric approach, we aim to ensure all students can thrive on their unique learning journeys. This includes providing staff with the necessary support and resources to help them and their students realize their full potential. Early screening, preventive interventions, and strengthening access to French Immersion programming are key focuses within this priority.
Centered on engagement and curiosity, the independence strategic priority aims to nurture responsible, self-directed, inspired lifelong learners. Key goals within this strategic priority include introducing an information literacy continuum throughout all grade levels (K-12) and enriching practical arts, vocational education, adult learning opportunities, apprenticeships, and career development programming.
Generosity rounds out the strategic priorities, focusing on the ethics of care to support learners and the community. A few key priorities within generosity include building accessible and equitable indoor and outdoor learning and work environments and implementing a universal health foods and beverages program.
As we step closer to the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, I am humbled by the collaboration between students, staff, and families. Together, we have crafted a roadmap with a clear vision and goals to help foster an environment of inclusivity, well-becoming, growth, and caring. Thank you to everyone who helped bring the 2023-27 MYSP to life. Your dedication and passion have laid the foundation for a brighter future for all members of the LRSD community.
The 2023-27 MYSP will be available to view in September at www.LRSD.net.
