The Riel community committee held a regular meeting on Sept. 28.

A $50,000 grant from the St. Norbert-Seinne River ward’s land dedication reserve for to restore the bathrooms at Richmond Kings Nursery School was approved, despite the public service recommending against approval, as the project did not meet typical LDR criteria.

Plans were approved for a six-unit residential building, which will replace a nine-car garage, at 151 de la Cathedrale Ave. The building would include four units for permanent use by the Capuchin Friars, and two units to accommodate guests.

The committee recommended approval of designating the block of St. Michael Road between Pulberry and Wright Streets in St. Vital with the honourary street name “Big Sky Country Way” in honour of the Métis singer-songwriter Ray St. Germain, who grew up on the street. The committee also recommended approval of naming the Sage Creek pump track in honour of Frank Capasso, a longtime Sage Creek Residents Association president.

A recommendation for a permanent U-turn option on Dunkirk Drive between Kingston Row and Fermor Avenue was approved by the committee, given that a temporary option has been in place this year owing to the ongoing bridge construction.

During a public hearing, an excess animal permit was approved for 180 High Rd., allowing up to five dogs on the property, but no cats, for a term of five years. Nobody was registered in opposition.
