The first snowfalls have hit the ground, and the holiday season is around the corner.
These are two sure-fire signs that organizers at Winakwa Community Centre are busy preparing for the facility’s annual craft sale.
The event will be held at the centre (980 Winakwa Rd.) on Saturday, Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission will be $1 per person.

Last year’s craft sale at Winakwa Community Centre is pictured here. This year’s event will be held on Nov. 18.
Janice Roy, the craft sale’s longtime co-ordinator, said there should be something for everyone at the event, and attendees can expect to see a wide variety of vendors on display, as well as homemade baking and a winter auction. Food concessions will also be available.
“There will lots of new vendors and crafters this year,” said Roy, who has been at the helm of the craft sale for around two decades, noting 55 tables have been booked. “There will be knitters, jewelry makers, and Christmas cards and decorations to give just a few examples. There will be more crafters than vendors.”
Roy said the annual event — this year’s is the second consecutive in-person sale since the start of the pandemic — is an important fixture on the Windsor Park-based centre’s calendar, not least because it’s a hub for community members.
“It brings people together, and it starts off the Christmas season. Once the winter comes, lots of people find themselves cooped up inside, so this is a great outlet for people in the community,” Roy said.
“It’s also an opportunity to shop local, and lots of people from Windsor Park have booked tables, as well as a number of people from outside the area.”
Roy noted the centre’s canteen will be open during the sale, and items for sale with include coffee, hot chocolate, cookies, hotdogs, and chili.
