It’s been a whirlwind for new Roblin MLA

I am deeply grateful to the people of the Roblin constituency in Charleswood and Headingley for the privilege of representing our community in the Manitoba Legislative Assembly. It’s an honour and a responsibility I take very seriously. Since being elected in October, I have been hard at work getting a new constituency office set up, attending events in our community, meeting with constituents, and participating in the first sitting of the new legislature.

It’s busy time for many in our community as we head toward the holidays, with Santa breakfasts, craft sales, sports events, holiday concerts, and more. I’ve discovered that one of my favorite parts of my new job as an MLA is being invited to participate in many of these events and meeting the organizers and volunteers who put countless hours into creating great experiences for people of all ages in our community to enjoy.

If your family is anything like mine, your calendar in December is likely jam-packed. Yet, this time of year always warms my heart because of the incredible generosity of the people in our community who, despite their busy schedules, give so freely of their time and resources to help ensure everyone has a joyful holiday season.

Charleswood Cheer, now in its fourth year, has matched hundreds of families in need with sponsors who assemble and deliver a complete Christmas hamper. Led by founder Lianne Tregobov and her team of volunteers, it’s a wonderful opportunity for families, hockey teams, and co-workers to come together to make the holidays a little brighter for families right here in our community.

The Rotary Club of Winnipeg-Charleswood is another great example. Among its many charitable projects, Rotary is currently supporting Ukrainian refugees through Bridge of Hope Ukraine, and also supports the food bank at Westgrove Family Resource Centre.

Countless youth are also doing their part to help those in need. For example, earlier this month, students from École Charleswood School spearheaded a clothing drive for Siloam Mission, and students from Oak Park High School participated in a blood donor clinic. There’s no shortage of generous people in our community willing to give of their time and resources to support those in need, and I thank them for everything they do.

Now that the legislature has recessed until spring, you will find me hard at work here in the Roblin constituency, meeting with constituents, working with community organizations, and advocating on your behalf with the provincial government.
