As we transition into fall, I hope you all had a fun-filled summer. Over the past two months, I’ve had the privilege of engaging with our vibrant community and want to share some highlights from our recent activities and initiatives. Each event reminds me of the incredible spirit and unity we embody in Fort Whyte.

One enriching experience was participating in Folklorama, where I visited several pavilions, including the Irish, Italian, Scottish, and the Spirit of Ukraine, hosted right here in Fort Whyte. Each pavilion offered a unique glimpse into the diverse cultures that make up our community, reinforcing the importance of inclusivity and cultural appreciation.

I also had the honor of attending the 15th Anniversary PAL 55-plus Picnic, where I connected with many amazing community members. It was heartwarming to see everyone enjoying laughter, delicious food, and engaging activities. This event highlighted the importance of fostering relationships among residents of all ages and reinforced my commitment to championing the voices and needs of older adults.

Another rewarding event was the DASCH 50th anniversary barbecue, where I connected with countless amazing people. It reminded me of the essential services that uplift individuals with disabilities and celebrated 50 years of dedicated support from DASCH to these individuals.

This summer also marked the launch of Linden Woods Community Centre’s Fall Harvest Farmer’s Market, featuring food trucks, over 20 local vendors, a bouncy castle, and various performances. It was a joyful celebration of local talent and entrepreneurship. Seeing hundreds of families come together for this inaugural event truly warmed my heart.

I was also delighted to support the Linden Meadows’ pumpkin patch and bake sale, benefiting the Winnipeg Humane Society and the Parent Advisory Council at Linden Meadows. This fun and rewarding event promotes local causes and strengthens bonds within our community.

Finally, I attended the FortWhyte Farms’ annual Harvest Supper, which aims to bridge communities, create learning and employment opportunities for youth, and promote healthy food. We feasted on fresh food, grown right at FortWhyte Farms, prepared deliciously by Good Bud’s Catering.

I am truly grateful for the relationships fostered at these amazing events. Please reach out to my office at any time with comments, questions or concerns by email office@obbykhan.ca or calling 204-691-0720. Thank you for your continued support. Together, we can build a future that embraces diversity, supports local initiatives, and creates opportunities for all.
