Hey there, time traveller!

Walking into Galaxy Printing, located at 1004 St. Mary’s Rd., I could hear the clatter of repetitive printing in the background. I had recently decided to self-publish short book of my collected writings of the past few years, and it was ready to pick up.

After searching online for businesses that print book, and design them along with you, I discovered Galaxy Printing, which, after 30 years in the business, still provides affordable options with as many categories as offered by big box retailers.

Richard Clancy, once a print broker, and his wife, Margaret, started with a press they had set up in their basement. Son Michael bought the press and together the family established Galaxy Printing.

Chenoa Cox, pictured behind the counter at Galaxy Printing, was an employee for 15 years before buying into the St. Vital printing business.

Many things have changed in the industry but, while the big box stores have crept in, Galaxy retains the support of the local community.

“We care about the outcome and the end result,” said Chenoa Cox, a co-owner of the business.

For Cox, one-on-one, face-to-face interactions generates communication and the customer assistance that has warranted them their success.

“We offer a quick turnaround. We spot copy errors in the flash of an eye, and correct them instantly. Working with non-profit groups, they rely on us, an independent source, to come to an agreement, in terms of their budget,” she continued.

Cox, an employee for 15 years, is now a co-owner with Michael Clancy. Her longevity in this industry shows how proud she is of her connection with repeat customers. From small copy jobs to large volume projects, she and the other Galaxy staff have the knowledge and experience to produce professional results every time.

Corporate clients are the mainstay of the business, and they maintain their pricing is consistent. And, since they don’t have to ship finished products to local customers, their prices are comparable to the many online services you may have seen advertised.

One of Galaxy’s more popular items for local small businesses is a scrim vinyl banner sign, complete with grommets for hanging inside or outside a window. They are weatherproof, and an ideal way to compliment one’s storefront signage.

Galaxy Printing does outsource some items through contacts in Ontario, and it also outsources shipping, using affordable shipping platforms, including UPS, Purolator, and Canpar through a website called freightcom.com
