Valley Gardens CC quiz night on Jan. 31

Valley Gardens Community Centre (218 Antrim Rd.) will host a quiz night on Saturday, Jan. 31, to raise funds for a new outdoor basketball court, an idea which has been in the planning stages since 2012 but is now gaining momentum.

Individuals or teams of between eight and 10 can register for the quiz, which runs from 7 to 11 p.m. Cost is $30 per person, which includes popcorn and one non-alcoholic beverage. There will also be a cash bar and a raffle, with proceeds going towards the basketball court project.

Space is limited to 14 tables/teams. To register, or for more information, visit valleygardenscc.com/events/quiz-night-1

Upcoming winter activities in East St. Paul

The RM of East St. Paul has a number of activities scheduled for the next couple of months.

Outdoor rinks at the East St. Paul Arena (266 Hoddinott Ave.) are open to the public, while the RM also has adult and kid sized snowshoes available to borrow, which can be reserved online.

In February, WinterPeg Ski will groom a trail around the arena and will be bringing its lending library — which includes cross-country skis, snowshoes, and kicksleds — to folks to try for free on Sunday, Feb. 16, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Those interested should register ahead of time.

On Sunday, Feb. 2, the banquet hall at the arena will host a Kids Valentine’s Chocolatier event from 1 to 2 p.m. Kids between six and 14 can register, for a cost of $30, to learn how to make and decorate chocolates for Valentine’s Day.

On Friday, Feb. 7, the banquet hall will host a wine bottle painting night for adults. Starting at 6:30 p.m., cost of registration is $40 per person.

The 36th annual Kids Helping Kids Musicthon fundraiser will be held at Kildonan Place (1555 Regent Ave. W.) on Saturday, Feb. 8 and Sunday, Feb. 9.

The event, put on by the Manitoba Registered Music Teachers’ Association, will showcase student performances at the mall during that weekend.

The MRMTA is again partnering with United Way Winnipeg to support youth music programs at a number of agency partners, such as Teen Stop Jeunesse, Rossbrook House, and Maples Youth Activity Centre, organizers say.
