Luxton Residents’ Association to hold AGM March 16

The Luxton Residents’ Association (LRA) will hold its annual general meeting on Sunday, March 16 at St. John’s Cathedral (135 Anderson Ave.), beginning at 7 p.m.

The meeting will include an interactive panel discussion with a focus on food security, featuring guest speakers Melissa Chung-Mowat, executive director at the North Point Douglas Women’s Centre, and Roxanne Kent, food security co-ordinator at the North End Community Renewal Corporation (NECRC).

Participants will also hear updates on several area initiatives community partners such as the Luxton Community Centre, NECRC, Quest Recovery Centre — a new development owned by Quest Health to be built in the vacant land once home to Drewrys Brewery near the Harry Lazarenko Bridge (formerly Redwood) — and the Bannerman Green Housing Co-op.

The association will also present the its annual report and elect its board of directors for 2025.

Coffee, tea, water, snacks and samosas will be provided.

Macdonald-Headingley camp registration is open

Although summer still seems a world away, there’s no better time than to get the kids registered for summer camp.

The Macdonald-Headingley Recreation District has officially opened up registration for summer camps in Headingley and Oak Bluff, which are set to take place in both July and August 2025.

Examples of some of the camps open for registration include a nature art camp for kids aged 7 to 15 at the Phoenix Community Centre, a ‘spy academy’ camp at Oak Bluff Recreation Centre, and more.
