New schools coming to Waverley

As spring finally decides to show up in Waverley, I’m really excited to share some big news that’s going to make a lasting difference in our community. We’re getting two brand-new K–8 schools — one in Prairie Pointe and one in Bridgwater Lakes.

These schools are being built to keep up with our rapidly growing neighbourhoods, giving hundreds of kids a bright, modern place to learn, explore and — if they’re anything like my son —probably accidentally donating their jackets to the lost-and-found. And the best part? They’ll be right in the heart of our community; no long car or bus rides, just excellent education close to home.

Waverley’s growth has been incredible. Since 2019, student enrolment across the Pembina Trails School Division has jumped 17 per cent. That’s a lot of backpacks. So, these new schools aren’t just about catching up; they’re about planning ahead. We’re making sure that as more families plant roots here, we’ve got the classrooms ready for their kids to thrive.

They won be just schools, either — each of these new spaces will also include child-care spots. That’s a big deal for busy families trying to balance drop-offs, pick-ups, and everything in between. By making early learning and care more accessible, we’re helping set kids up for success right from the start.

Education isn’t just about textbooks and tests. I don’t think I’m being hyperbolic when I say it’s the foundation of a good life. Schools are where kids learn math, reading, how to work together, understand each other, and build community. These new schools will be places where kids from all walks of life will come together and learn what it means to be a part of something bigger than themselves. That sense of unity starts young, and will shape the neighbourhood and, more broadly, our city and province for years to come.

I couldn’t be more excited to see the positive impact this will have on Waverley. We’re building something great here, together.
