Big changes coming to Winnipeg Transit

Winnipeg Transit is about to undergo a major transformation with new service improvements set to launch on June 29. These changes, part of the Winnipeg Transit Master Plan, are designed to create a more reliable, efficient, and accessible transit system for all Winnipeggers.
At the core of these updates is the introduction of the primary transit network This new system will streamline routes, reduce wait times, and provide better connections across the city. The PTN will introduce rapid transit lines with high-frequency service and fewer stops to ensure faster travel times. Frequent express and direct lines will serve major routes efficiently and reliably, improving overall service. Feeder routes will connect neighbourhoods to the main network, making it easier for residents to access transit. In areas where fixed-route service is less efficient, an on-request service will provide a flexible and convenient option.
These changes have been developed based on technical analysis and public feedback to ensure they meet the needs of Winnipeg residents.
The city has started a public information campaign to help residents prepare for the transition. Updated schedules, maps, and signage have been introduced. Then, on Sunday, June 29, the new transit network will officially launch, bringing more reliable service and better connectivity across Winnipeg.
Learn how to use public transit with confidence. The City of Winnipeg travel training program is a free service designed for organizations, schools or any groups who are interested in accessing travel training to help riders adjust. It offers sessions on how the new network and feeder routes work, finding and using new routes, stops, and schedules, in addition to using trip-planning tools
To request a session for your group, use the online form on the Travel Trainer Page at the City of Winnipeg website or call 311. The Transit training team will customize a presentation suitable for your group.
This is a major step forward for our city’s transit system, and I encourage all residents to stay informed about the upcoming changes. The new system is designed to make public transit faster, simpler, and more accessible, improving daily commutes for thousands of Winnipeggers.
