Busy summer in Red River North

Greetings to all. As we continue into the summer season, with its warm weather, sunshine, outdoor activities and socializing with friends and neighbours, I hope that everyone is staying safe and keeping well. It has been a busy summer in the constituency of Red River North and I have had a great time attending events and meeting with the folks in our wonderful riding.
I was honoured to attend the Henderson Legion Canada Day celebrations. Sun, fun, music, games and food were the side dish to July 1’s main course, Canada Day! The Henderson Legion once again hosted a party to celebrate Canada’s birthday. East St. Paul Mayor Carla Devlin, along with Couns. Brian Duval, Charles Posthumus and Orest Horechko grilled burgers and hot dogs and were joined by MP Raquel Dancho’s staff members, who made sure they kept the barbecues full. Legion president Diane Tashe welcomed everyone to the event, as did Mayor Devlin and myself. The band Night Train provided great music all afternoon. Thanks to the Henderson Legion and all their volunteers for putting on a great community event!
I was pleased to learn that East St. Paul’s Kathy Mulder was named to the Order of Canada this June, one of 83 individuals to receive the honour. For decades, Kathy Mulder has striven to improve and advance care for people with inherited bleeding disorders. Notably, she was the first woman, physiotherapist and Canadian to chair the World Federation of Hemophilia’s Musculoskeletal Committee. Now retired, she has mentored and inspired fellow specialists in Canada and around the world.
“It is a great honour to be recognized for my work around the world with people with inherited bleeding disorders. We are so fortunate to live in Canada where we have such excellent care,” Mulder said. Congratulations Kathy! The Order of Canada is the corner stone of the Canadian Honours System. Since its creation in 1967, more than 8,200 people from all sectors of society have been appointed to the Order. The contributions of these trailblazers are varied, yet they have all enriched the lives of others and made a difference to this country.
I was very happy to be invited by MLA Derek Johnson to attend the Icelandic Festival celebration in Gimli this year. Icelandic Festival of Manitoba in Gimli is always a meaningful experience — a celebration of history, heritage, and the strong ties between Iceland and our region.
This year’s theme, “Woven Together: Iceland and Canada / Ísland og Kanada Samtengd,” is a powerful reminder of the connection that continues to shape New Iceland and beyond.
I welcome Constituents of Red River North to continue to access our Constituency office either by email at rrnorthca@mymts.net or by telephone at 204-641-2107.
