This year’s Remembrance Day, on Tuesday, Nov. 11, will mark 106 years since the first commemoration of the holiday in 1919. There will be several ways to observe it around the city.

The Royal Canadian Air Force Band will perform at Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute’s Jubilee Place (181 Riverton Ave.) on Friday, Nov. 7. The concert, which celebrates the 100th anniversary of CFB Winnipeg, begins at 7:30 p.m. Joining the RCAF Band will be members of the Regimental Band of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, the band of HMCS Chippawa, and the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders Pipes & Drums. Admission is by donation with all funds donated to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund.

Schools throughout the city will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 11 for Remembrance Day.

• RBC Convention Centre (375 York Ave.) will host Winnipeg’s main Remembrance Day ceremony, indoors with seating for over 4,000 people in Hall AB. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m., the audience is expected to be seated by 10:30 a.m. and the service will begin at 10:40 a.m.

Bruce Park & St. James Legion No. 4 (1755 Portage Ave.) will host its annual Remembrance Day ceremony on-site, all day from 10:50 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. All are invited to attend. For more information, call 204-888-2860.

Royal Winnipeg Rifles Memorial will be held at Vimy Ridge Memorial Park (821 Preston Ave.) Program begins at 10:30 a.m.

Minto Armoury’s Remembrance Day program will be held outside the Armoury (969 St. Matthews Ave.) The building will be closed on Nov. 11, owing to construction, so the ceremony will take place in front, between Minto Street and Dominion Street, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Please dress for the weather.

Oak Park High School (820 Charleswood Rd.) plays host to public Remebrance Day ceremony from 10:05 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. According to organizers, the ceremony will begin with videos and hold a formal service at 10:25 a.m., which will feature the hymns Last Post and Reveille. This year’s speaker is Gen. Virginia Tattersall.

Domain Community Hall (Main Street, Domain, Man.) will host an outdoor service at its memorial cairn at 10:30 a.m. An indoor service is scheduled to follow. For more information, call 204-523-4950.

Stride Place (245 Royal Rd.) will host Portage la Prairie’s ceremony. It’s scheduled to run from 10:44 a.m. to noon, and all are welcome. For more information, call 204-857-5558.
