Five-year-old dies in car collision

Winnipeg police continue to investigate after one child was killed and two others were transported to hospital following a vehicle collision in Fort Richmond.

On June 19 around 1:40 p.m., Winnipeg police say emergency crews were called to a “two-vehicle” collision at Dalhousie Drive between Pembina Highway and Rochester Avenue at Baylor.

Three children were taken to hospital. A one-year-old and four-year-old were admitted in stable condition, while the five-year-old was taken in critical condition. She died from her injuries.

Police believe the children were in a vehicle that had been travelling west on Dalhousie when it collided with an eastbound vehicle.

Investigators are looking for witnesses to the crash and ask anyone with information to call police at 204-986-7085 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.

Vote for Stadium Station art

The City of Winnipeg is holding a vote to decide which theme will be used to decorate the Stadium Station at IG Field.

There are four proposed themes for the bus rapid transit station at the University of Manitoba: sports, entertainment, nature, and Winnipeg landmarks.

According to the City, Winnipeg Transit plans to install six large panels with graphics at the station. The panels will be designed based on the winning theme, which will be announced in the summer and installed this fall.

The themes are on display at the station until mid-July and are available online.

There’s going to be a fresh face at City Hall this July.

Sadie Armstrong was selected by a panel of judges to be the next Kid Mayor of Winnipeg.

The initiative by the mayor’s office is in its second year and solicited applications from kids, aged eight to 12, across Winnipeg. The would-be mayors had to explain what they believe the job entails and how to make Winnipeg a better place to live.

Armstrong will be at City Hall for a day in July, and will shadow mayor Brian Bowman at executive policy committee, where she will serve as co-chair and present her idea to committee members.
