Q: We are having a problem deciding how to vent our stove exhaust fan to the outside. It’s on an exterior wall next to our garage which has not been boarded. Do you think we may have condensation problems?
A: The easiest way to vent your exhaust fan outside would be to install a wall-mounted exhaust fan on an outside wall within the kitchen footprint. If you continue to vent your exhaust fan within the home, you will more than likely start to notice high relative humidity in your home, if you already haven’t.
Q: Have you heard of FIBEROCK underlay for putting on basement floors that are potentially subject to moisture, but not actual water? We saw this product advertised at a big box store. We are looking to put something on basement floor before installing laminate or carpet. The four by eight sheets are almost double the price of DRIcore. Is it worth the additional cost?
A: Basement Systems carry a product that you can install yourself called Delta-FL which is a dimpled plastic membrane installed directly over the concrete once you have sealed it, which allows the concrete to breathe while providing an insulated basement floor and warmer room. At this point you can lay your plywood subfloor, followed by the flooring of your choice. Other wise the DRIcore would be next best buy for the more money.
