We Day is an educational youth empowerment event and movement of young people coming together to change the world. This year’s We Day Manitoba will take place on October 29, 2014 at the MTS Center with 16,000 students and educators from across the province. Students are earning their way to the event by taking action on one local and one global action of their choice.  Follow their stories here or learn more at www.weday.com.

The cause: Local and global causes

The action: The students at Mulvey School have kept busy this past year supporting a variety of causes. When news broke about the hurricane in the Philippines, the school was quick to rally friends and family in the community and collect $200 for the Red Cross! Additional money was raised for their partner, the Misericordia Hospital, through setting up decals in the hallways and asking students to purchase them for $2 in honour of a friend.

The students also decided to support Free The Children’s Year of Education. During its winter concert, the school held a bake sale which raised $554. Spirit Days were also a fun and creative way to fundraise, and included Pyjama Day, Crazy Hair Day, Jersey Day, Beach Day, and Inside-Out Day.

Overall, it was a year full of dedication to both local and global causes.

The why: “This year our Leadership Committee has done so many amazing things. We have worked hard at building awareness in our school about the need to take action and do what we can to make the world a better place.”
