Don’t forget to put out the trash

Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 15/09/2017 (3013 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
Starting Mon., Oct. 2, the City of Winnipeg will be adjusting recycling, garbage and yard waste collection days for some residents.
The changes are related to a new seven-year collection contract, which will be shared between two different contractors. It should be more efficient and provide the best possible collection service for the City and our residents in Old Kildonan.
During the week of Sept. 18, all residents with cart collection services will receive a notice by direct mail from the City, confirming your collection day, whether or not your collection day is changing.
There are several other ways to obtain information on your collection day.
You can easily find your newly-assigned collection day by visiting www.winnipeg.ca/collectionday and entering your address. From this webpage, you will be able to view your collection calendar and even print a one, two or six-month calendar. And you can even set up collection day reminders.
If you prefer using a mobile app, you can download the free My Waste app from the App Store, Google Play or www.winnipeg.ca/mywaste
My Waste allows you to see your collection schedule and set up reminders to ensure you never miss your collection day.
The Old Kildonan ward map can also help you figure out which new collection area you are in.
A few collection tips to remember:
• Please remember to put your carts and yard waste out by 7 a.m. on your collection day, and bring them back onto your property as soon as possible after collection.
• Place your carts at least an arm’s length (one metre) apart from each other, from yard waste containers, and from other obstacles, such as vehicles. Also, make sure there are no overhead obstructions, such as tree branches or low hanging wires.
• Make sure the lids are fully closed, without packing items into the carts. The contents need to fall freely into the truck.
You can call 311 anytime and they will be able to help you with more information.
