Matix Lumber opens in Headingley

The week of May 18 marked the opening of a new retail and commercial facility in
Headingley Business Park on the TransCanada Highway.

Tony Matic, company president, began working on his vision of Matix Lumber about three years ago. Relying on more than 40 years of expertise in the building material business, he has crafted his operation to include both a retail division open to the public and a commercial division.

Store manager Dave Turland said: “We are offering professional quality products and tools which will appeal to building contractors, renovators and avid do-it yourselfers.”

The store’s offerings include lumber, building materials, hardware, paint, flooring, plumbing, heating and electrical, heating ductwork, and doors and windows.

They can provide RTMs [Ready To Move houses], mobile and modular houses and Honka log homes.

“The logs for the Honka homes originate in Finland. The assembly is all numbered with the pieces fitting together, much like LEGO” Turland explains.

Professional interior design services are also available, including kitchen cabinets and drafting services.

Matix Lumber has access to as many as 60,000 different products that can be ordered online.

The company will be servicing not only local needs but remote communities, as well. Shipping building materials via ice roads by truck prior to spring thaw will enable carpenters and other workers to complete their work after the deliveries arrive. The full complement of staff is expected to be around 70 employees, which will include all divisions and drivers.

As the business just opened its doors, its hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Look for extended hours and the official grand opening this summer.
